CALWELL
TOPEKA-Doris Fern Calwell, 99, of Topeka, passed away on October 26, 2007 at Aldersgate Village in Topeka. She was born December 1, 1907, in Wetmore, KS, the daughter of Edward and Daisy White Newlin. She graduated from Wetmore High School in 1925. She taught two years in a one-room school in Jackson County, then went on to graduate from Christ's Hospital's Vail School of Nursing in 1930. Doris did public health nursing and special duty nursing in Topeka. Later, she did nursing in Washington D.C., Wichita and Kansas City.
Doris married William R. Calwell on October 3, 1931, in Topeka. They lived in Topeka, Washington D.C., Wichita and Lake of the Forest, Bonner Springs, KS. They moved to Aldersgate Village in 1995. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and the Topeka Chapter of the DAR.
Survivors include her husband, William R. Calwell of Topeka, KS; sons, David Calwell and his wife, Pauline of Topeka, KS and Michael Calwell and his wife, Laura of Mission, KS; sisters, Della Hinkle of Topeka, KS, Bernice Lichty of Orange Grove, CA and Lois Bassett of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Ken Calwell and his wife, Sandy of Ann Arbor, MI, Chris Calwell and his wife, Vicki of Durango, CO, Todd Calwell and his wife, Jenny of Houston, TX and Cindy Mosciaro and her husband, Joe of Hayden, CO; great-grandsons, Kasey Calwell of Ann Arbor, MI and Sammy Mosciaro of Hayden, CO. She was preceded in death by her sister, Geneva Brenner and brothers, Calvin and Carol Newlin.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 29, 2007 at Wesley Hall in Aldersgate Village in Topeka. Interment will be in Wetmore Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday morning at Wesley Hall.
