Donald C. Tosh, 87, Valley Falls, passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2012, at Midland Care Hospice House in Topeka surrounded by his family who loved him very much.
He was born June 25, 1925, at Valley Falls, the son of Cecil and Luella (White) Tosh. Don attended schools in Valley Falls and was a farmer and stockman his entire life. He was a member of the Nortonville Christian Church, serving as an elder, deacon and Sunday School teacher.
As a young man, Don learned to husk corn by necessity and later in life enjoyed competing in local, state and national corn husking competitions, placing third in the Kansas State competition in 1982. He and his family owned Valley Hereford Farms where they raised registered Polled Hereford cattle which were shown at local, state and national competitions including the Kansas State Fair, The American Royal and the National Western Stock Show. He was an avid fan of Kansas State University athletics.
He was united in marriage on August 13, 1950, to Barbara J. Martin at Nortonville. She survives. Other survivors include his son, Randy Tosh, and wife, Debra, of Olathe, KS; grandson, Brian Tosh, and his wife, Amanda, Roeland Park, KS; and granddaughter, Heather Tosh, Olathe; three sisters, Melva (Earl) Bowie, Holton, and Barbara (Duane) Goodrich and Sue Manthe, both of Topeka; three brothers, Loren (Lois) Tosh, Glendale, AZ; Harold (Geneva) Tosh, Holton; Larry (Sherry) Tosh, Westcliffe, CO and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Millard Tosh.
The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 10, 2012, at the Nortonville Christian Church. Visitation will be Friday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Interment will be in the Valley Falls Cemetery.
