Delman Gooderl, 90, of Hoyt, KS passed away Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Jackson County Medicalodges in Holton, KS.
Delman was born June 1, 1923 in Jackson County, the son of Scott and Anna May (Akers) Gooderl. He graduated from Hoyt High School in 1941 and worked as a farmer his entire life. Delman married Mazie McClain on July 27, 1946. He was formerly a member of the Hoyt Baptist Church and a current member of the Holton First Baptist Church. He served in varied leadership roles and enjoyed singing in the choir. Delman was actively involved in the community: he served as a longtime 4H club and county leader, member of the board of directors of Jackson County Nursing Home, the Soil Conservation District Board, and the Jackson County Extension Council. He and Mazie managed the Downtown Topeka Farmers Market for several years. He was proud when he and Mazie were inducted into the Master Farmers/Master Homemakers Association Class of 1981.
Delman is survived by: his wife Mazie Gooderl of Rossville, KS; his children, Leslie Gooderl (Lee Ann) of Holton, KS, and Nancy Little (Randal) of Rossville, KS; his grandchildren Bryan, Kaleb, Alex and Michaela Little, Marie Tinsley, Kate and Connor Gooderl, and one great-grandchild Ross Little. He was preceded in death by his son Stephen Gooderl and his brothers Donald and Gerald Gooderl.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow at Hoyt Cemetery.
