Delbert Allen Mapes, Jr., 75, of Lawrence, KS, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at his home in Lawrence. He was born December 3, 1943 in Waterville, KS, the son of Delbert Allen Mapes, Sr. and Helen Louise (McDonald) Mapes.

He lived Lawrence for many years and was previously from Whiting and Mayetta. Delbert enjoyed his family and painting. He had a special companion, his dog, Gonzo.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his step-mother, Frances Mapes of Topeka, KS; his sister, Cathy L. Hartley (Dan) of Holton, KS; 2 nieces, Dayna Hartley of Holton, KS and Carrie Anderson (Dustin) of Topeka, KS and 4 great nephews; Brayden, Rogen, Colden and Jaxon.

Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 12, 2019 at the Springhill Cemetery in Whiting. Family will meet at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton to go in procession to the cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Monterey House c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
