WECKMAN
HOLTON- Dr. Dean Keats Weckman, retired DVM, 85, of Holton, passed Sunday, April 30, 2006 at the Holton Hospital. Dean was the only child born to Lanius E. and Mabel Keats Weckman on December 9, 1920 in Plattsburg, MO. The family moved to Topeka, KS when he was 5 years old. Dean attended grade school and Jr. High in Topeka. They then moved to Holton, KS where he graduated from Holton High School in 1938.
Dean attended Kansas State University where he received his Extension Degree. After his time in the military, he pursued a degree in Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State. He had his own Veterinary Practice in Oskaloosa for many years before he retired.
He married Mary Eubanks. She preceded him in death in 1990. He married Kathryn Arnold in July of 1994 and moved back to Holton. After he retired, Dean enjoyed raising dogs and being involved in the Topeka Kennel Club.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn, two sons, Doug Weckman and Randy Weckman, two daughters, Pam Reisig and Tracy Berndt, 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandsons, two step-sons, Allen Arnold and Richard Arnold, two step-daughters, Barbara Mattox and Mary Cady, 12 Step-grandchildren and 16 step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery in Oskaloosa, KS. Family will greet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
