Obituary

HAVENSVILLE- Dean Frederick Myers, 84, of Havensville, KS passed away October 8, 2011 at his home after a long and courageous battle with COPD. He was born July 12, 1927 in Albuquerque, NM, the son of Ralph and Nancy (Armstrong) Myers.

Dean was a lifelong member of the Havensville community. He graduated from Havensville High School in 1945. After high school, Dean joined and served in the United States Navy during WWII.

Dean was owner and operator of Myers Construction for over 60 years, many of those years with his son, Randy, who still operates the business. He was past president of the KLICA in 1973 and 1974 and was contractor of the year in 1974. Dean had also owned two airplanes and loved to fly from his airstrip next to his shop.

He was a member of the Havensville Christian Church, Commander for the American Legion Post #333, Charter Member of the Havensville Lions Club, Moose Lodge #555 in Topeka and was privileged to go on the Jackson Heights Honor Flight. He served on the Onaga Hospital Board for over 30 years. Along with Larry Rothers and several others, Dean was very instrumental in starting the Havensville Fire Department.

Dean married Betty Lou Sauvage on December 16, 1950 in Topeka. She survives of the home. Other survivors include 4 daughters, Cindy Shaw (Steve) of Silver Lake, Trudy Francis (Terry) of Topeka, Mindy Sieve (Tim) of Topeka and Jody Myers of Edgerton; a son, Randy "Buck" Myers (Tawni) of Havensville; 14 grandchildren, Tracy Mercer (Chris), Scott Sloop (Rosie), Justin Shaw (Debbie), Cory Francis (Jessica), Jamie Francis, Amanda Farmer (Travis), Matt Hamilton (Tracy), Tabetha Davis (Josh), Tyler Correll and Cory, Matt, Ashley, Casey and Colby Myers and 20 great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Interment will be in the Havensville Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials may be given to the Havensville Christian Church or American Legion Post #333 c/o Mercer Funeral Home P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
