David Lewis Gilbert, 72, of Holton, KS, passed away Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at Medicalodges Jackson County. He was born August 8, 1949 in Springfield, OH, the son of Charles and Mariemma (Gorman) Gilbert.
David graduated from Springfield Ohio High School and from Southern Louisiana University with his Bachelors Degree. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corp from 1965-1967 during the Vietnam War.
David enjoyed being a car dealer in his early years for Heritage Motors in Odessa, MO. For most of his life he worked as a loan officer for many banking institutions.
He was a member of the Evangel United Methodist Church, Seekers Sunday School Class, Past-President of Holton Lions Club, and member of Holton V.F.W. Post 1367.
David was proud to have Sandra K. (Murphy) Mitchell-Studebaker-Gilbert as his wife. They were united in marriage on April 1, 2013 in Council Grove, KS.
Survivors include his wife, Sandy Gilbert of the home; son, Andrew Gilbert of San Antonio, TX; daughter, Suzanne Kreutzer of Overland Park, KS; sister, Anne Beidler (Peter) of Seattle, WA, and stepchildren, Mike Mitchell (Kelly Beamand) of Rossville, KS, and Susan Minner & Family of Holton, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mariemma Gilbert and a brother, Gorman Gilbert.
Honoring David's request, cremation is planned. Memorial Service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 24, 2021 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Inurnment with Military Honors conducted by Holton V.F.W. Post 1367 will follow at the Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time. Memorials may be given to Evangel United Methodist Church or Holton VFW Post 1367 c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, Kansas 66436.
