Daniel T. "Doc" Holaday, 74, of Topeka, KS passed away April 29, 2009. He was born January 1, 1935 in Wathena, KS the son of Louis and Mary Gurney Holaday. He lived most of his life in Netawaka, Holton, Hiawatha and Topeka communities. He graduated from Leona High School in 1952 and received educational degrees from Highland Community College and Washburn University. Mr. Holaday taught school and coached at Netawaka schools for 10 years and later worked in agricultural sales with Kaiser and Con Agra until retirement. He served in the Army National Guard and served on the Jackson Heights High School Board of Education from 1970 – 1976.
He married Sue Sourk, with whom he had four children. They later divorced. He then married Ilene Severson, they were also divorced.
Survivors include 3 sons, Todd Holaday (Pamela) and Darin Holaday (Elizabeth) both of Holton, KS, Darrell Holaday (Pam) of Wamego, KS; a daughter, Brenda Holaday of Topeka, KS; 4 sisters, Connie Hess of St. Joseph, MO, Phyllis Winters, Mary Campbell, Lillas Hawkins all of CA; a brother, Louis Holaday of Abilene, KS and 10 grandchildren, Michele, Carrie, Jeremy, Mitchell, Garrett, Ethan, Sarah, Quinn, Faith and Reese.
He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Wilma Meers, Doris Jamvold and 3 brothers, Andy, Wilbur and Charles Holaday.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 2, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Holton. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. Friday evening at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Memorials may be given to the Jackson Heights Educational Foundation c/o Mercer Funeral Home P.O.
