Dale K. Blackwood, 78, Sabetha, formerly of Denison, passed away Monday, March 10, 2014, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha. He was born September 3, 1935, in St. John, KS, the son of Henry and Florence Wright Blackwood.

Dale graduated from Denison Rural High School and was a farmer and dairyman in the Denison community for most of his life. He was also a bus driver for USD 336 for 53 years. Dale was a member of the Denison Reformed Presbyterian Church, serving as elder nearly 40 years. He taught Sunday school and was a Youth Sponsor. He served in the Kansas National Guard. He was a leader of the Awana group and participated in many bowling leagues.

Dale married Kathleen McCrory on October 8, 1955 in Denison. She survives at Sabetha. Dale was preceded in death by his daughter, Louise Scoby; two brothers, Dwayne and Junior Blackwood, and a sister in infancy, Louise Blackwood.
He is survived by two daughters, Wanda Armfield (James), Topeka, and Janet Tippin (Stan), Shawnee; son-in-law, Jim Scoby, Sabetha; his brother, Carl Blackwood, Indianapolis, IN; six sisters, Fern Sublette, Sun City, CA, Lois Wing, Lenexa, Alta Tweed, Winchester, Twila Cunningham, Jenison, MI, Della Crissman, Centennial, CO, and Corajean Smiley, Athens, GA; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the Denison Reformed Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in Denison Cemetery. The family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, at the church. Dale will lie in state through Friday evening at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
