VALLEY FALLS-Dahlma G. Miles, 92, of Valley Falls, KS, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2025 at FW Huston Medical Center in Winchester, KS. She was born September 17, 1933 in Wheeling, MO, the daughter of Alvin and Margaret (McNinch) McDowell.

Dahlma attended Dunlap High School, and later received her GED in Atchison, KS.

She worked for the Iowa Beef Processing plant in Emporia, KS for many years. She provided home care in Emporia and Troy and had also worked for Mainstreet BBQ in Wathena.

She attended the 2nd Christian Church in Atchison, KS, as well as the East Side Baptist Church in Topeka, KS.

She loved to cook, bake, sew, crochet, knitting, needle point, making quilts and traveling.  She was an avid reader, loved playing Wahoo, card games, puzzles and word search book; so much that when she was bored, she would turn the puzzles over and work them blank with no picture.

Dahlma loved our Lord and Savior and taught her children to do the same. Our Lord got her through many tough times.

Dahlma married Phillip Metcalfe on February 3, 1951. They later divorced.

She was preceded in death by 3 daughters, Margaret Metcalfe (twin of Janice), Barbara Krause, and Romona Parsons; a still-born son; 6 brothers, Alvin (half-brother), Bob, Bill, Albert, Marion, and Clayton McDowell; 2 sisters, Marie Edwards and Mary Doyle (half-sister); granddaughter, Julie Embrose and grandson, Travis Lee Edwards.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Grace Barker, and Janice Weishaar; twin sons, Edward and Edwin Metcalfe; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

As per Dahlma's wishes, she will be cremated. No services are scheduled at this time. Memorial contributions may be made to Dahlma Miles Memorial Fund to be designated at a later date c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
