CORRINE NIXON
HOLTON- Corrine Spencer Nixon, 92, of Holton, died Sunday, October 28, 2007 at the Holton Community Hospital. She was born December 19, 1914 near Circleville, KS, the daughter of Charles Ross and N. Hazel Wolfley Spencer.
Mrs. Nixon graduated from Circleville High School in 1932. She taught school at Glenwood Country School west of Holton for a year. She then attended Dodge School of Business in Topeka. Her first job was secretary to Charles Porterfield who was president of the National Funeral Directors Association at that time. She was working at the Holton Court House for the Welfare Department when she received a radiogram in October of 1941 from Washington D.C. offering a position in the War Department. She worked at the Pentagon for 31 years, retiring in 1972.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Holton. She also belonged to the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the Pleasant Valley Neighbors Club and the A.Y.L.I. Bridge Club.
She was married to Clarence H. Nixon, Jr. on June 25, 1955 in Washington, D.C. He passed away on February 10, 1990. She is survived by her step-daughter, Marion Durden of Porter, TX; her step-son, Clarence H. Nixon III of Brunswick, GA; her sister, Ruth Boettcher of Las Vegas, NV; many step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 1, 2007 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton, KS. The family will greet friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
