Clinton Smith, Jr., 77, Holton, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.

He was born April 14, 1939, at Kansas City, KS, the son of Clinton and Elsie Worner Smith, Sr. He graduated from ACCHS (Effingham) in 1957. He served in the US Army and was stationed in West Germany.

Junior retired in 1997 from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in Topeka after 32 years of service. He was a member of United Steel Workers Union Local 307. He farmed north of Valley Falls. He had worked at the Locomotive Finished Materials Plant at Atchison after graduating from high school.

Junior married Rita J. Self, Aug. 11, 1969, at Miami, OK. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry and Jackie Smith, and a sister, Julia Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Rita, of the home; three sons, Carl (Shelley) Smith, Aurora, NE, Rod (Lauren) Smith, Lawrence, and Neal (Tara) Smith, Arvada, CO; two sisters, Joyce Shrader, Atchison, and Janice Heitschmidt, Cambridge, MN; and nine grandchildren, Vianna, Julia, Quinten, Ayeanna, Olive, Arlo, Jackson, Lucia, and Lennon.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Sept. 30, 2016, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Burial will follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday.
