Clifton J. Wabaunsee

Clifton “Wasato” John Wabaunsee, 45, of Topeka, KS, passed away Friday, August 21, 2026 at the St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, KS. He was born March 6, 1981 in Holton, KS, the son of Richard Wabaunsee and Peggy C. Romero.

Clifton worked for Joe Conroy Contractors as a concrete finisher in Topeka, KS.

Clifton enjoyed watching WWE Wrestling, being outdoors, helping where and when he could and he loved his kids. His favorite hobby was metal detecting. 

He was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and a member of the Our Lady of Snows Catholic Church.

Survivors include his children, Jalisa, Colton & Phoenix Wabaunsee all of Green Bay, WI; sister, Lindsey Wabaunsee of Topeka, KS; two brothers, Ricky Wabaunsee of Horton and Gregory Wabaunsee of Topeka, KS; step-children, Dakota and Josh Waupoose of Green Bay, WI; niece, Rosalind Wabaunsee of Topeka, KS and 2 nephews, Simon Mesa of Holton, KS and Dominick Wabaunsee of Topeka, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Peggy; a sister, Lasie Wabaunsee, and a brother, Richard Wabaunsee, Jr.

Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at Nozhackum Hall with Wake to follow. Ttibekwe and Wake will be Thursday, August 27, 2026 at Nozhackum Hall. Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 28, 2026 at Shipshee Cemetery.
