Claude Melvin Langston Jr., 88, Valley Falls, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at Hickory Pointe Care Center in Oskaloosa.
He was born on March 4, 1924, at Valley Falls, the son of Claude Melvin and Clara Mae Stewart Langston. He attended schools in Valley Falls.
Mel was a farmer and raised livestock east of Valley Falls. He also drove a bus for USD 338 for 36 years, retiring in 1989. He had been a member and treasurer of the Baptist Church and later attended the First Christian Church, both in Valley Falls.
He married Mary Evelyn Daniels on Aug. 24, 1946, at Valley Falls. She died on June 17, 2001.
Survivors include three daughters, Jan Merz and Claudia (Jim) Welch, all of Topeka, and Nancy (Joe) Weishaar, Valley Falls; three sisters, Vera Irwin, Topeka, Evelyn Luthi, Silver Lake, and Delores Lockridge, Ft. Defiance, VA; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Burial will follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday.
