Obituary

HOLTON- Clarence Wooten, Jr., 85, of Holton, KS passed away August 19, 2011 at his home. He was born December 22, 1925 in Hiawatha the son of Clarence and Nora McKim Wooten.

Clarence had attended Hiawatha High School. After high school he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served from 1944 -1946 during WWII. He had lived in the Holton area for over 33 years and had previously lived in Onaga. Clarence had worked as an operator for the Michigan Wisconsin Pipe Line Co.

Clarence enjoyed going to the casino, playing with his dog, Baby, watching sports (especially KU Jayhawks and Royals), fishing and playing softball and baseball for the Topeka Owls.

He married Irma J. Campbell on September 10, 1949 in Troy, KS. She preceded him in death on May 15, 2003. He was also preceded by a brother, Raymond Wooten.

Survivors include a daughter, Terry Slater (Larry) of Mayetta; 6 grandchildren, Angela Strube (Kevin) of Horton, Lucas Slater of Mayetta, Lisa Potts (Mi-kes) of Mayetta, Missty Slater of Topeka, Mathew Slater of Mayetta and Annie Slater of Mayetta; 5 great grandchildren, Kasey, Korby and Katelin Strube, Juliet Brackenbury and Irma "Naninwakwe" Potts.

Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 22, 2011 at the Holton Cemetery. The family will meet at the Mercer Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Clarence Wooten Memorial Fund to be designated at a later date c/o Mercer Funeral Home P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
