Overland Park, KS- Cheryl Ann Jepson Smith, 62, of Overland Park, KS passed away October 20, 2009 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born September 2, 1947 in Holton, KS the daughter of Marion "Dale" and Naida "June" Slimmer Jepson. She attended Soldier Grade School and graduated from Soldier High School in 1965. She then graduated from Johnson County Community College in 1982 receiving her Associates Degree in Nursing.
Cheryl had been an RN since college graduation, working at Trinity Lutheran Hospital in Kansas City, MO as an orthopedic nurse and recently retiring from Family Medical Center in Kansas City, MO after 15 years. She was baptized and a former member of the Soldier Christian Church, a member of the National Assoc. of Orthopedic Nurses, a member of the Hillcrest Christian Church in Overland Park, KS and an avid K-State Fan.
She married Ronald "Ron" Smith on January 29, 1967 in Soldier, KS. He survives. Other survivors include her mother and step-father, June Jepson and Charles "Chuck" Werns of Soldier, KS; 2 daughters, Michelle Ann Smith Woerner (Kevin) of Linn, KS and Stacey Lynn Smith Brison-Bray of Overland Park, KS; 2 brothers, Daryl E. Jepson (Joy) of Topeka, KS and Kent L. Jepson (Jayne) of Soldier, KS; a step-brother, Joe Werns (Charla) of Stoughton, WI; 2 step-sisters, Mary Keirsey (Jim) of Solon, IA and Nancy Miller (Dan) of Anchorage, AK and 4 grandchildren, Jasmine, Jaden, Jolene, and Justine. She was preceded in death by her father, Dale Jepson January 19, 1994.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 24, 2009 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Interment will be in the Soldier Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Independence Farms School of Therapeutic Riding c/o Mercer Funeral Home P.O.
