HOLTON - Charles A. Heckerson, 93, of Holton died Friday, November 28, 2008 at the Holton Community Hospital. He was born December 30, 1914 in St. Joseph, MO, the son of Andrew and Edla Schuck Heckerson. He graduated from Central High School and Gard Business School both in St. Joseph, MO. Charles served in the the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre in the Hospital Corp as a Chief Pharmacist's Mate. He moved to Holton from St. Joseph in 1947. He operated Holton Produce and Heckerson Hatchery and later worked for the U.S. Post Office until his retirement. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He had been in Holton Lions Club and Rotary Club. He was a former member of the Holton Chamber of Commerce and was recently honored as a 60 year member of the Holton Masonic Lodge #42 A.F. & A.M. He was also a member of the Holton Country Club and the Jackson County Senior Citizens' Center.
Charles married Agnes L. Stuber on August 23, 1941 in St. Joseph, MO. She preceded him in death on October 18, 1997. He was also preceded by an infant son, Stephen Lee Heckerson in 1946; sisters, Dorothy Cowden and Ruth Murphy. He is survived by a son, Roger Heckerson and his wife, Pam of Holton; Maurine Sweeney and her husband, Richard of Highlands Ranch, CO, and Diane Hatfield and her husband, Dennis of Rossville, KS; sister, Virginia Butler of Tulsa, OK; brother, Bill Heckerson and his wife, Josie of Woodstock, GA; and seven grandchildren.
Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 1, 2008 at First United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be in the Holton Cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
