Carolyn Elaine Edwards, 87, Valley Falls, KS, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at Restwell Home Plus in Oskaloosa.

She was born at home on September 15, 1937, in Valley Falls, KS. The daughter of William Edgar and Dorothy (Jackson) Ferrell. Carolyn grew up on the family farm west of Valley Falls. She attended school at Swabville one-room schoolhouse and graduated from Denison High School in 1955.

Carolyn worked as a dressmaker/seamstress in Atchison, KS for about 6 years. She also provided childcare to many friends' children over the years while raising her own. After her children were raised, she worked at Econo-Clad Books in Topeka. Carolyn served on the Delaware Township Library Board for 10+ years, belonged to a women's bowling league, and always enjoyed a good day or evening playing cards with friends.

Carolyn married Leland Edwards on March 16, 1956, in Denison. They were married for 55 years. He preceded her in death on June 25, 2011. Also preceding her in death were her parents, a brother, Donald Ferrell, and a granddaughter, Hannah Jo Hartley.

Survivors include two sons, Dale (Shelley) Edwards of Valley Falls, KS and Dean Edwards of Cloquet, MN; daughter, Donya Hartley of Boonville, MO; Grandchildren, Haley (Matthew) Hisey, Cole Edwards, Valley Falls, KS, Jeffrey Hartley, Columbia, MO, Delaney Edwards, Cloquet, MN, and Ashley (Mitchell) Kyle, Jefferson, Georgia; and Great Grandchildren, Kaycin Williams, Ryker Hisey, and Adeline, Elsie, and Logan Kyle.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Burial will follow at Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Wednesday morning before the service. Carolyn will lie-in-state for viewing at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 7th from Noon until 6:00 p.m.  Memorial contributions can be made to the Delaware Township Library c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O.
