Obituary

Carol Mae Chapman, resident of The Forum in Overland Park, KS, died quickly and painlessly at home on September 23, 2014 at the age of 97.
She was born August 10, 1917 to John & Mary Harszy in St. Louis, MO. Younger sister of Virginia (who predeceased her), she graduated from Cupples Elementary School, Soldan High School and Rubicam Business School, all in St. Louis.

On June 29, 1940, she married Richard Boyd Chapman, who preceded her in death after a remarkable 71 years of marriage. In 1956, she moved to Kansas City with her husband and three sons when his company, Revere Copper & Brass, named him District Sales Manager. Carol was active in youth activities as her sons were growing up, in scouting, Indian Guides, sports and church youth groups. She was a member of the 50/50 class of Country Club Christian Church and Circle 13 leader of its Christian Women's Fellowship. She was a 50-year member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and President of her chapter. She enjoyed traveling and sailing on the Lake of the Ozarks for many years with her husband; she took great pleasure in playing bridge with friends.

She is survived by her three sons: John Boyd Chapman, Arlington, VA; Steven Richard Chapman (and his wife Janice), Olathe, KS; and David Robert Chapman, Kansas City, MO. Her loving grandchildren are Lisa Smith (and husband Scott), Houston, TX; and Andrew Chapman (and his wife, Lissi), Glenview, IL. She was the proud great grandmother of Wesley, Ty, Brooke and Lauren Smith; Anna and William Chapman.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm on Monday, November 24, 2014 at the George Hamilton Combs Memorial Chapel, Country Club Christian Church, 6101 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, MO 64113. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions in her name be made to Country Club Christian Church.
