Carleton Lanning Gilliland, 91, of Mesa, AZ, died at home on February 20, 2007. He was born Nov. 13, 1915, in Denison, KS, the son of Roy and Gertrude Lanning Gilliland. He married Hazel D. Bartlett on May 1, 1937 in Birmingham, KS. Mr. Gilliland graduated from Denison High School. He worked for the Everest Creamery in Everest, KS and the Farmers' Co-op in Holton, KS before becoming a partner in the Crow & Gilliland Insurance and Real Estate Agency in Holton, KS for many years. He was also a farmer. Upon retirement in 1976 he moved to Topeka, KS. He married Gloria Coyle on July 26, 1997 in Topeka, KS. In 2005 he moved to Mesa, AZ.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Nancy Kendall (Forrest) of Prairie Village, KS and Jeanne Robinson (Bryce) of Cedar Falls, IA; seven grandchildren, Trey (Cindy) Kendall of Overland Park, KS, Brad (Kelly) Kendall of Fairway, KS and Chris (Becky) Kendall of Winnetka, IL, Cam (Rebecca) Robinson of Waunakee, WI , Kellan Robinson of Gurnee, IL, Blake Robinson and Megan (Jake) Witt, both of Cedar Falls, IA; nine great-grandchildren; four step-sons, Roger and Chuck Coyle of Gilbert, AZ; Dennis and Bryan Coyle of Mesa, AZ; three step-daughters, Carol Hagood of Chandler, AZ; Kathy Grabow of Gilbert, AZ and Linda Jeffers of Omaha, NE; fourteen step-grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Maurice (Marjorie) of Holton, KS and two sisters-in-law, Stella Gilliland of Holton, KS and Marjorie Gilliland of Muscotah, KS.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel D.; his parents; two brothers, Roy, Jr. and Loren; and two sisters, Olive Scarlett (Homer) and Leola Blumberg (Roy).
