Obituary
Bruce E. Carson, 60, of Holton passed away July 3, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Bruce was born August 28, 1952 in Holton, the son of Lorene Tapp and Robert E. Carson. He attended schools in Holton and graduated from Holton High School in 1970. He also attended Vo-tech in Topeka and received licensing as a certified welder.
Bruce worked as a commodity broker in the late 70's based out of Chicago, Illinois, an Independent Oil Landman throughout the panhandle of Oklahoma from 1980 – 1990. In 1990, he returned to Holton and sold insurance for Cornerstone Insurance Agency as well became co-owner of Buehler and Carson Bail Bonds. Bruce also reclaimed his ranching roots in the early 90's.
Bruce married Anita "Jeanenne" Gormley, May 30, 1980, she survives of the home. Other survivors include his sons; Dominic (Makenzie) Carson and Jude Carson, both of Holton, Kansas; daughter and son-in-law Holly & Jorgan Beck, of Junction City, Kansas; two grandchildren, Ivy and Jance Beck; brother, Frank (Dianne) Carson of Holton, Kansas; sister-in-laws; Mary Harris, Judy McGuffin, both of Holton, Kansas and Colette (Dean) McAfee of Horton, Kansas; brother-in-laws; Bill (Monty) Schiffbauer of Sea Brooke, Texas, Bob (Joan) Schiffbauer of Holton, Kansas, Gene (Rachel) Gormley, and Jim (Lynn) Gormley of Horton, Kansas and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Bruce is preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-laws; Eldon Harris, Jerry McGuffin, and Ralph Schiffbauer and sister-in-law; Kathleen Serra.
Bruce will be remembered by many for his sense of humor, ability to tell great stories, and intriguing ideas. He never knew a stranger for very long, any place he went he could make friends instantly, some that became life-long friends. His greatest reward in life was his grandchildren they will cherish memories of riding on the mule to gather eggs, checking cows and taking care of farming life.
A Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at St. Dominic Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday evening, with a rosary beginning at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family has designated memorial to be sent to Holton Community Hospital Hospice c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
