McCONNELL

HOLTON- Billie G. McConnell, 84, of Holton, died Saturday, May 19, 2007 at the Holton Community Hospital. He was born November 12, 1922 in Wetmore, KS, the son of Frederic A. and Rubie B. McDaniel McConnell. He graduated from Wetmore High School in 1940.
Mr. McConnell farmed in the Horton and Hiawatha area for several years. He later went into the grocery business, working for Safeway and then operating his own store in Whiting, KS. In 1979 he moved to Holton where he worked for Ron's United Super until he retired in 1990.
He served in the Army Air Corp during WWII. He was a life member of V.F.W. Memorial Post #1367 in Holton and was past commander of the post.
He was married to LaVerne Rita Schuetz on February 24, 1949 in Horton, KS. She survives. He is also survived by his daughter, Rita Ann Ent and her husband, Elmer of Holton, his son, George Edward McConnell and his wife, Carion of Atchison, 4 grandchildren, Jennifer Berges and her husband, Lynn, David Ent and his wife, Heather, Amy Gab and her husband, Chris, and Kristy McConnell, 2 great-grandchildren, Hannah and Dalton Ent. His grandson, Michael Alan McConnell, preceded him in death in 1976.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 21, 2007 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Interment will be in Wetmore Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
