Obituary

Beverly Jean (Zinn) White, 78, passed away at her home on the family farm east of Denison on July 10, 2013. She was born March 20, 1935 in Topeka, KS the daughter of Stuart and Ellen (Dalton) Zinn.

Her father moved his young family to Southern California at the start of World War II. Beverly graduated from Central Union High School in El Centro, CA where she was Phi Beta Kappa and the Drum Major for the marching band. She received her accounting degree from Imperial Valley College and she was homecoming queen for one year. After her three children were in school, she went back to college and received a degree in Psychology and a teaching degree. Later, she received a Master's Degree in Education from California State University.

She taught in Etiwanda School District in Southern California until her retirement. For several years, she was the District Reading Specialist, gave workshops at California Teacher Association Conferences and was a team leader on accreditation and assessment teams for San Bernardino County schools. After retirement, she and her husband traveled extensively before settling down on the family farm east of Denison.

Beverly married Joe White on March 4, 1956 in El Centro, CA. He survives of the home. Other survivors include a daughter, Melanie Melcher (Mark) of Holton, KS; a son, Joe Jr. (known as "Chip" to the family) of East Highland, CA; 5 grandsons, two are in the Air Force and one is a Navy Corpsman; and a great granddaughter to be born in August, the little girl she always wanted to buy frilly dresses for in the shops of the world.

She was preceded in death by her youngest son, Jeffrey.

Beverly was a well-loved, remarkable lady and she will be missed by family and friends.

The funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in the Denison Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Denison Bible Church c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
