Betty Marie (Cochren) Scheid, 90, of Whiting, KS, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2020 at her home with family by her side. She was born September 10, 1930 in Whiting, the youngest child of Walter W. and Captola Marie (Shannon) Cochren.

Betty graduated from Whiting High School in 1948 and attended both Highland Community College and Benedictine College. She worked for the United States Postal Service as a Postmaster in Robinson, KS; retiring after 22 years.

She was a member of Whiting United Methodist Church and a 60-year member of O.E.S.

Betty and Paul L. Scheid were married on October 3, 1947 in Hiawatha and they celebrated over 73 years of marriage. Betty loved flowers and spent many hours gardening and redesigning their Whiting home, making it the center of many family gatherings.

Survivors include her husband, Paul Scheid of the home; 2 daughters, Paula S. Scheid (Stephen Rosengren) of Topeka, KS and Marcia Jo Scheid Watkins (Galen) of Whiting, KS; son, Mark W. Scheid (Glenda Herl) of Topeka, KS; 5 grandchildren, Josh Watkins (Erika), Zach Watkins (Cori), Matt Watkins (Kristin), Megan Martin (Anthony) and Jared Herl (Allison) and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, June Henoch and Joy Manion and 2 brothers, Wendell Cochren and Bill Cochren.

Due to Covid, the graveside service will be attended by immediate family only on Friday, November 20, 2020 at Springhill Cemetery in Whiting. For extended family and friends, Betty will lie in state beginning Tuesday afternoon to Thursday evening until 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Whiting United Methodist Church or Holton Community Hospital Hospice.
