EFFINGHAM- Betty J. Montgomery, 93, of Effingham, KS passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017 at a nursing facility in Valley Falls, KS. She was born November 30, 1923 in Humansville, MO the daughter of Mark and Olive (Tipling) Shockley.


Betty graduated from Atchison County Community High School.

She married Charles Howard Montgomery on January 15, 1943 in Atchison, KS. He preceded her in death on September 17, 1983.

Betty was a Housewife and also worked part time as a clerk for Wheeler's Hardware and later as a cook for Medicalodges.

Survivors include 4 sons, Dean Montgomery (Eileen) and Ross Montgomery (Terry) both of Effingham, KS, Larry Montgomery (Sonja) of Cummings, KS, and Roy Montgomery (Kim) of Lakewood, CO; 13 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Betty was preceded in death by her parents and also a sister, Juanita Smith.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 16, 2017 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in the Larkinburg Cemetery.
