Betty Jo Herbers, 82, of Holton died Monday, May 21, 2012 in Holton. Betty was born February 4, 1930 in Holton, the daughter of Jesse Lorane and Edith Jackson Beightel.
Betty worked as a bookkeeper. She also worked in the Jackson County Extension Office and later at Evangel United Methodist Church. She was a member of Evangel United Methodist Church, and she was in King's Daughters Sunday School Class. She was a member of many clubs including the Tourist Club and the EUM Bell Choir.
Betty married Duane E. Schirmer on January 14, 1955 in Lincoln, NE. Duane preceded her in death on July 3, 1982. Betty then married Alvin J. Herbers on April 12, 1985 in Holton. Alvin preceded her in death on August 9, 1999. She was also preceded in death by a step-daughter, Marian Bartley and a step-granddaughter, Rochelle Fahrmeier. Betty is survived by her daughters, Vicki (Tom) Bell of Topeka, KS and Julie (Stephen) Perkins of White Stone, VA; her step-children, Ralph (Charlene) Herbers, Julia (Dale) Fahrmeier, Jim (Anita) Herbers, Susan (Steve) Cole, Jack Herbers and Lois (Bryan) Sechrist; brothers, Jack (Karen) Beightel and Bill (Brenda) Beightel; a brother-in-law, Phil (Emma) Schirmer; 4 grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren and 6 step-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Herbers was cremated. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2012 at Evangel United Methodist Church in Holton. Private inurnment will be in Holton Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
