Betty Jo Bowser, 96, of Olathe, KS, formerly of Holton, KS, went to be with the lord, Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at Healthcare Resort of Olathe. She was born December 17, 1929 in Sioux Falls, S.D., the daughter of Rev. Newton L. and Alene Elizabeth (Godfrey) Haney.
Betty Jo moved to Jackson County in 2003 and had previously lived in Kansas City for 55 years. She retired after 20 years from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as Secretary. She was also Secretary for the First Baptist Church in Holton for many years.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, past President for American Business Women of Kansas City and Holton Lions Club. She was a former member of Alpha Lions Club and Worthy Matron for JCHS Hoyt Chapter OES #189.
Betty Jo married Harlan E. Bowser, Sr. on April 13, 1952 in Independence, MO. He preceded her in death on October 4, 2013 after 62 years of marriage.
Survivors include her daughter, Roxanna Day (Gregory) of Overland Parks, KS; son, Harlan E. Bowser, Jr. (Karen) of Kansas City, MO; 4 grandchildren, Breanna L. Day, Kayla C. Day, Aaron R. Day and Mariah K. Bowser and brother, Donald R. Haney.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Newton and Alene Haney; sister, Alene Totten and brother, Newton L. Haney, Jr.
