Circleville- Vera Berniece Cochren, 94, of Circleville passed away April 10, 2010 at the Holton Community Hospital. She was born August 1, 1915 in Hoyt, KS the daughter of Fred and Mary Courtwright Ingle.
She graduated from Wetmore High School and later from Emporia Teachers College. She was an elementary teacher near Hoyt for 5 years, worked at the Slimmaker Dress Factory for 10 years and then devoted herself to being a farmer's wife and mother.
She was a member of the Circleville United Methodist Church, a member of the United Methodist Women, she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years.
Berniece married Walter C. Cochren on June 6, 1935 in Maryville, MO. He preceded her in death on January 12, 2005. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Burgess Schuster; a son-in-law, Harvey Allen and two great grandchildren.
Survivors include a son, Mike Cochren and his wife Sharon of Circleville, KS; a daughter, Joyce Allen-Andrew and her husband Robert of Stillwell, KS; six grandchildren, Marcie Stenberg, Carole Danner, Pamela Arbeiter, Valerie Olberding, Barry Allen and Michelle Hines; 13 great grandchildren and a niece, Janice Hardeman.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Family will greet friends 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
