Barbara Jo Cornell, 50, died Sunday morning, January 9, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.
She was born April 28, 1960 in Manistee, Michigan, the daughter of Joseph and Emma (Kaiske) Szpliet. She graduated from Manistee High School in 1979 and married Randy J. Cornell on June 30, 1979. The couple had lived in Denison the last eight years. Barbara was employed with Wal-Mart in Holton.
She is survived by: her husband, CWO4 Randy J.Cornell, USCG, Retired of Denison, KS; her mother, Emma Szpliet of Manistee, MI; her daughters, Nichole Cunningham-Williamson of Midland, TX and Rebecca Cornell of Denison, KS; her sisters, Mary Sundbeck of Manistee, MI, Paula Maes of Denver, CO and Roberta Dougher of Stanwood, MI; her brothers, Michael Szpliet of Freesoil, MI and Jeffrey Szpliet of Manistee, MI; and her grandson, Dominic Cunningham of Midland, TX.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday January 13, 2011 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. The family will greet friends Wednesday evening at the funeral home from 6-8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Wal-Mart Relay for Life Team and may be left in care of Mercer Funeral Home, P.O.
