Obituary

Arthur Richard Strawn, 83, Valley Falls, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, at Village Villa at Nortonville.
He was born March 9, 1925, at Valley Falls, the son of Lloyd Benson and Josephine Votipka Strawn. He graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1943. Art served as a Signalman 2nd Class for the US Navy 7th Fleet in the Pacific during WW II.
He worked at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in Topeka for 38 years. His hobbies were stamp collecting and keeping historical records of Valley Falls and Jefferson County. Art was a past president and life member of the Valley Falls Historical Society. He was a member of Grahem-Herbers Post 3084, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and had attended the First Christian Church in Valley Falls.
He was proceeded in death by three brothers, Louis Benson Strawn, Kenneth Gilbert Strawn and Clarence Edward Strawn, and a sister, Dorothy Gibson.
Survivors include four nieces, Susan A. Rader, Yukon, OK, Patricia D. Jamison, Lyman, S.C., Christine Elaine Davis, Casa Grande, AZ, and Sara Jane Weiler, Englewood, CO.
Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009. at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Inurnment will be at the Valley Falls Cemetery with military honors conducted by Grahem-Herbers Post 3084, VFW. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Memorial contributions may be made to the Valley Falls Historical Society and sent in care of the funeral home, 810 Broadway, Valley Falls, KS 66088.
