HOCHULI
HOLTON-Arthur Jacob Hochuli, 94, of Holton, died February 3, 2008 at Glenn Moore Meadows in Holton. He was born August 25, 1913 in Holton, KS the son of Otto Henry and Ida Bertha Boettcher Hochuli. Four siblings preceded him in death, Ernest and Edwin Hochuli, Ruth Moore and Alma Taylor. Art married Edith Marie Fletcher in Topeka on Edith's birthday, June 1, 1938. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at home in 1988. She died January 21, 1994. He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter Sharon Sue Hochuli.
Art attended Holton High School graduating with the class of 1931. He graduated from Kansas State University in Chemical Engineering in 1935. He served in World War II as a major in the Army stationed in the Aleutian Islands, retiring from the Reserves after 28 years as a Lieutenant Colonel. Art farmed with his brother Edwin on the Hochuli home place in the Birmingham community. He spent 33 years in the Postal Service in Holton, retiring in 1971 while serving as Assistant Postmaster. Art was a lifetime member of the Evangel United Methodist Church teaching the Volunteers Men's Sunday School class for many years. He served on the Holton School Board of Education, one of the five original boards that formed a consortium for the establishment of the Kaw Valley Technical School which was dedicated in 1968. He was a charter member of the Holton Lions Club serving as District Governor in 1953 and 1954 and was a Melvin Jones Fellow in 1980. He was an avid fan of the Kansas State sports teams, with a lifetime membership in the Kansas State Alumni Association.
Survivors include daughters Barbara Clark, Lenexa, Kansas, and Mary Candace (Candee) Jacobs, Holton, Kansas; grandchildren Fletcher Jacobs of Denver, Colorado, Spencer Jacobs of Manhattan, Kansas, Mallory Jacobs of Manhattan, Kansas, Melissa Clark Webb (Rowdy) and great grandson, Cody Webb of Portland, Oregon.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 7, 2008 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Family will greet friends from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
