VALLEY FALLS- Arthur "Bud" Frakes, 73, of Valley Falls, KS passed away Friday, August 13, 2010 at his home. He was born October 3, 1936 in Valley Falls, the son of Raymond C. and Ruth Smith Frakes. He graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1954.
Bud had worked for several trucklines for a total of 37 years, he retired from Yellow Freight after 22 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Church in Valley Falls. He was also a member of teamsters Local #696, a volunteer fireman, a Treasurer for the Ball Association and coached girls softball.
Bud was married to Alice Grollmes on December 27, 1955 in Valley Falls. She survives. Bud is also survived by his sons, Michael Frakes of Topeka, KS, Matthew Frakes (Sheila) and Arthur Frakes, Jr. both of Valley Falls, KS.; his daughters, Gwen Putthoff (Chris) of Meriden, KS, Christine Noe and Hope Stover (Chuck) both of Topeka, KS, Pamela Sloop (Bob), Janet Ricklefs (Al), Paula Pickerell (Jason) and Amy Harrington (Todd) all of Valley Falls, KS and Jennifer Schwarzenberger (Kevin) of Lawrence, KS; his brother, Roger Frakes and his sister, Patty Jackson both of Valley Falls, KS; 25 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ron Frakes and a grandson, Raymond Stover.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Church in Valley Falls. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery at Valley Falls. A Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Monday evening with visitation to follow at the Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. By family request, there will be no viewing. A book will be available for signing beginning at noon on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the church or Valley Falls Ball Association or E.M.S.
