Arthur H. Bartels, 84, of Holton, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka.
He was born July 22, 1929 the son of H. Christ and Elsie (Rummers) Bartels. He attended schools in Marshall County, Kansas and later joined the United States Army and proudly served his country in Korea. He was a farmer and factory worker and was a member of the Marysville VFW and American Legion.
In 1968 Arthur married Ilene Borden in Wymore, Nebraska. She survives of the home. Other survivors include: his daughter, Vickie Bartels of Holton, KS; his son, Leslie Bartels and his wife Gwenn of Holton, KS; his sisters, Viola Kanarr of Algena, WA, Minnie Purtek of St. Joseph, MO, Dorothy Eardmann and her husband Stielf of Wymore, NE and Juanita Bartels of Beatrice, NE; his brothers, Richard Bartels and his wife Martha of Marysville, KS and Ivan Bartels and his wife Sharon of Marysville, KS; his two granddaughters, Adalyn and Amelia Bartels; and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Lavern Bartels.
Graveside funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 12th, 2013 at Joy Creek Cemetery (north of Washington, Kansas). The family will greet friends Friday evening at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton from 6-8:00 p.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to The Freedom Riders or Disabled American Veterans.
