Anne "Charlene" Montgomery, 81, of Soldier, KS, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2024 at The Pines South in Holton. She was born September 22, 1942 in Southwest City, MO, the daughter of Kenneth Sherwood Roberts and Anna Marie Payne.

Charlene graduated from Immaculata High School. She was a farmwife, foster parent and for many years drove the school bus for the Auburn/Washburn school district.

She was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church and the Garden Club.

Charlene married Charles "Larry" Zule, they later divorced and he preceded her in death in 2006.

She married Donald Richard Montgomery on January 5, 1981 in Miami, OK; after 42 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on September 30, 2022. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Anna Roberts; son, Randy Zule and 3 sisters, Pat Wyrick, Nancy Bowers and Carol Nelson.

Survivors include her children, Lisa Stumpf (Bill) of Mayetta, KS, Tracy Zule (Tiffany) of Soldier, KS and Brandy Montgomery of Holton, KS; sister Betty Walker (Charles) of Ft. Smith, AR; her "Children of the Heart", Angie Campos, Helen Adkins, Diana and Therese; 11 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2024 at the St. Dominic Catholic Church in Holton. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Memorials may be given to the Holton V.F.W. c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O.
