HOLTON- Alvin William Ward, 49, of Holton, KS passed away March 29, 2012 at Stormont Vail Hospital. He was born July 30, 1962 in Alice, TX the son of Frank D.R. and Myra (Schmidt) Ward.

Alvin graduated from Washburn Rural High School in 1980. He had lived in the Holton community since 1993 and had previously lived in Topeka. Alvin was currently working as a Certified Nurse Aide for Medicalodges Jackson County in Holton. He had also worked for other care facilities and Gage Bowl in Topeka. He also helped raise his niece Michele and nephew Michael.

Alvin married Pam Martin Place on May 4, 1995 in Holton. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Ashley Kidd of Sherman, TX; 4 step-daughters, Kim Barber (Tony) of Holton, KS, Denise Marshall (Steve) of Whiting, KS, Brandi Place of Holton, KS, Courtney Place of Netawaka, KS; 2 step-sons, Brent Place of Kirksville, MO and Eric "Doug" Place of Holton, KS; a sister, Jeanie Herken (Jon) of Oskaloosa, KS; 2 brothers, Art Ward (Peggy) of Tucson, AZ and David Ward of Topeka, KS; 16 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. He was a loving and caring uncle to many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ricky Ward.

Memorial service will be 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association c/o Mercer Funeral Home P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
