ALVIN STEWART UHNER
WINCHESTER- Alvin Stewart Uhner, 89, Winchester, KS, died Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at his home.
He was born August 1, 1917, at Duluth, MN, the son of Axel W. and Elizabeth E. Watts Uhner. He graduated from Muskogee, OK High School in 1936. He was a corporal in the US Army, serving in the 81st Infantry Division in the South Pacific during WW II. He was later stationed in Japan and Korea. He was a member of Grahem-Herbers Post 3084 Veterans of Foreign Wars in Valley Falls, KS.
He had worked as a meat cutter at Food for Less in Olathe and was also a salesman for Red Star Yeast. He had worked as a mail carrier for
USD 231 at Gardner for 15 years.
He married Neva Ruth Ross on May 9, 1937, at Ft. Gibson, OK. She died on May 16, 2001. He was also preceded in death by two great-granddaughters and one great-great-grandson.
Survivors include his son, Bill Uhner, and his wife Lyndia, Valley Falls; a stepbrother, Dudley Page, Tahlequah, OK; five grandchildren, Robin Boyette and her husband, Carl, Ozawkie, Shawn Uhner, Valley Falls, Denalyn Page and her husband, Richard, Nortonville, Mary Hunt and her husband, John, Valley Falls, and Victor Uhner and his wife, Katherine, Chanute; nine great-grandchildren, three step great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
A graveside service with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 15, Muskogee, OK, will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 2, 2007, at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery. A visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Sunday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.
