A.D. Moret, 89, Topeka, died Monday, December 10, 2007 at The Homestead. He was born in Parsons, Kansas, on October 21, 1918, the son of Alfred Theophile and Minnie Jeffers Moret. Darrell was a 1936 graduate of Springfield High School and attended Drury College in Springfield, Missouri until 1939. He was married to Gertrude Gosnell on September 16, 1938. They met at Springfield Boulevard Baptist Church where they were members of the same Sunday School class. Gertrude preceded him in death in 1997 and also a daughter, Judith Ann Zwonitzer in 2005.
A.D. was a civil engineer with the Kansas Department of Transportation for 38 years, serving 19 years as a Road and Field Engineer in the Bureau of Rural and Urban Development in Topeka before his retirement in 1983. He was a registered professional engineer in the State of Kansas, a life member of the Kansas Engineer Society and the National Society of Professional Engineers.
He was a past president of the Holton Rotary Club in 1962-63 and former member of the Holton City Planning Commission. He was a past vice-president of the Board of Directors of the Kansas Silver-Haired Legislature, Inc. and a past chairman of the KAPE Legislative Sub-Committee for Retirees. He was a private pilot and served as an Associate Advisor of Topeka Boy Scout Air Explorer Post 708 from 1966-1978.
He was a past master of Wamego Lodge #75, and live member of Topeka Orient Lodge #51, Kansas York Rite, Chapter #5, Topeka Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Arab Shrine Temple and Topeka High Twelve Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Katie Holliday and her husband Merle, Topeka; a son-in-law Larry Zwonitzer, Holton; two grandsons Eugene Zwonitzer and his wife Janet, Holton, and Darrell Stous and his wife Deena, Shawnee; four great-grandchildren, Leah and Emily Zwonitzer and Garrett and Kirsten Stous. Also surviving are three step-grandsons, Steve and Bertie Holliday, Enid, OK; Dennis and Carla Holliday, Holton; and Gary Holliday, Topeka; 12 step great grandchildren, and 9 step-great-great grandchildren.
A.D. will lie in state through 11 am Friday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Services will be held Friday at 2:00 pm at Cornerstone Community Church, 7620 SW 21st, Topeka, with visitation from 1:00 pm until service time. A private graveside service will be held for the family with interment in Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Midland Hospice, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children or Cornerstone Community Church and sent in care of Mercer Funeral Home, P.O.
